Since joining the National Catholic Reporter in 1997, Pat Marrin has created hundreds of cartoons depicting many diverse issues in Catholic news. Outside the Lines is a collection of 28 of Pat's best cartoons, taking you on a journey from the pre-Vatican II era church to the present. Enjoy several never-before-seen cartoons, and laugh alongside our pope in the new series ìFrancis.î This collection reminds us that, as Catholics, there is indeed a time to laugh.

Pat Marrin has been a cartoonist and writer for the National Catholic Reporter for the past 17 years. He is also the editor of NCR's sister publication, Celebration. Prior to that, he taught college journalism, and worked as graphic artist, book review editor and a political cartoonist for a daily newspaper. He holds degrees in philosophy, theology and journalism. He is married and lives in Kansas City, Mo.

"Outside the Lines" helps me to think seriously about Catholic issues without taking myself seriously. Because of this I can more freely give to others. In addition to laughter I have joy. Thanks to Pat Martin!
