Book Details

Rave may be the middle word in travel, but when raving reporter Kirk Field created the world's first holiday company catering exclusively to clubbers, the Rave New World threw everything it could at him: 9/11, volcanic ash clouds, suspicious customs officers, avalanches, North Sea storms, pandemics, fraudulent accountants, and the ghost of Michael Jackson. From high jinks on the high seas and insanity in Ibiza to playing in the powder of the Austrian Alps and psychic silliness on the Costa del Sol, this is the story of what happened when Kirk pioneered a new kind of tourism—for guests who weren't interested in spending the night in a five-star luxury bed (or any bed, for that matter!). An uncensored, white-knuckle ride through the side of holidays the brochures don't show you.

Author Description

After being reborn in a laser-filled courtyard in Hackney, London in June 1989, Kirk Field has blazed a trail in the dance music world for thirty-five years as a promoter, performer, (almost) popstar and clubbing travel pioneer. His thoughts have appeared in Mixmag, DJ Magazine, Time Out, Ministry and (ironically) The Sun. In 1999 he set up Radical Escapes: the world's first holiday company catering exclusively for clubbers, and has taken over 10,000 people on holiday to Ibiza alone. His debut book won an ARIA award for Audiobook of the Year in 2024 and has been the UK's most popular dance music title since publication (June '22). His ground-breaking one-man spoken word show has appeared at Glastonbury Festival, Edinburgh Fringe and in UK theatres. After working with all the biggest names in dance music, Kirk now lives in Devon with his wife, two sons, a cat that is mute, and his tinnitus, which sadly isn't.
