Author Description

Duane S. Crowther is well known and highly qualified as an author, theologian, teacher, and lecturer. He graduated with high honors from Brigham Young University with a BA in music education. He also holds a master's degree from Brigham Young University in Old and New Testament, an MBA from the University of Phoenix, and he has completed course work for a PhD in music education at the University of Utah.A creative and prolific author, Mr. Crowther has written more than fifty books, including such well-known favorites as Prophecy—Key to the Future, Life Everlasting, The Prophecies of Joseph Smith, Inspired Prophetic Warnings, Gifts of the Spirit, Prophets and Prophecies of the Old Testament, The Godhead, Jesus of Nazareth: Savior and King, How to Understand the Book of Mormon, How to Write Your Personal History, Key Choral Concepts, and You Can Read Music. He is the author and narrator of more than three dozen cassette talk tapes, in addition to numerous magazine articles and music compositions.In his professional life, he has served as a Latter-day Saint seminary instructor and principal; taught university classes for Brigham Young University, the University of Utah, and the University of Phoenix; and still teaches music, Old and New Testament history, and writing skills classes in public school adult education programs. He was president and senior editor of Horizon Publishers and Distributors, Inc., in Bountiful, Utah.Mr. Crowther has written and produced national award-winning patriotic pageants. He has lectured at numerous business and writer's seminars, BYU Education Week, youth conferences, and other Church gatherings. He has hosted and escorted tours to Israel, Mexico, Central America, Hawaii, and other locales.His has been a life of continued and varied service within the Church. He served two full-time and three stake missions. He has been a district president, branch president, high priests group leader, stake mission president, seventy's quorum president, and elders quorum president. He also has served as a Sunday School and YMMIA superintendent and president; ward music chairman; stake music and drama director; a member of several stake boards; a director of numerous regional, stake, and ward choirs; and a teacher and teacher trainer. A gifted and knowledgeable teacher, he has served as a gospel doctrine instructor for more than twenty-five years. Other Church assignments have included callings as a temple worker and as a guide on Temple Square. He and his wife presently serve as temple workers in the Bountiful Utah Temple, and he is currently serving as a high priests instructor, the boy scout troop committee chairman, the stake employment specialist, and his ward's chorister. He is a Master M-Man and an Eagle Scout.Mr. Crowther is married to Jean Decker, who also is an author, editor, teacher, and musician. The parents of eight children and grandparents of twenty-eight grandchildren, the Crowthers reside in Bountiful, Utah.
