Author Description

Jerald Ray Johansen was born and raised in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, where he excelled in sports as well as scholarship. Following a mission to South Africa, he graduated from BYU with a B.S. in Secondary Education in 1958 and a Masters of Religious Education in 1961. He received a doctorate in Higher Education from the University of Southern California in 1967.He has been with the LDS Church Education System since 1958, serving as Seminary Principal at Tropic, Utah; Institute Director at Boise, Idaho; Institute Director at California State College in Los Angeles; and he has been an instructor at the Ogden, Utah LDS Institute since 1967. He has led numerous travel tours for BYU Travel Study, including three Church History tours, three Europe and Israel tours, and two Mexico and Book of Mormon tours.This is his second book. He is also the author of A Commentary on the Pearl of Great Price, which is a Horizon Publishers' publication, plus a number of articles in various religious magazines and journals.He has served extensively in the Church. His service includes fulfilling calls as a Bishop, Bishop's counselor, high councilman, high priests group leader, stake mission president, seventies group leader, and gospel doctrine teacher. He has filled three stake missions.Brother Johansen is married to Lenore Allred of Spring City, Utah. They are the parents of six children and grandparents of fourteen. His interests include sports: playing racquetball and waterskiing, and watching football and basketball and other sports. He also enjoys family activities, Church service, travel, and he is an avid reader.
