Category : Young AdultISBN No :978-0-89823-293-6
In this extraordinary novel, David Haynes tells the heartrending story of Marshall's journey through a broken world, where his father's new girlfriend, a poem by Yeats and a white teacher with big plans for her favorite students all seem to have the power to change him. And as Marshall struggles to make sense of his life, the haunting letters begin to arrive from his runaway mother: "We are linked tighter than fine gold chains. Who knows when we'll next be together--"a tale of the ties that bind and the ties that fall away, Right by My Side is a cry from the heart, and a masterful novel of love and awakening by one of America's most gifted young writers.
David Haynes has been recognized by Granta magazine as one of America's best young novelists. The author of six critically acclaimed novels and five children's books, he is director of creative writing at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. The former sixth grade teacher's short stories have been heard on "Selected Shorts" on NPR, and his novels have been recognized by the American Library Association.

RIGHT BY MY SIDE was a good diversion from the hectic day. It reached into the center of the title character as he bared his soul and became honest with him view about his mother, father, and himself as a young man growing up within his troubled family. Even I couldn't have guessed the ending, and that made the trip worth the effort. Good job, David!
