My Dinosaur and Unicorn is a bilingual children's book written for kids who are learning Urdu as a second language. Urdu has many words from Turkish, Hindi, Persian, Arabic, English, and regional languages of southeast Asia as well. It also helps facilitate the learning of different languages of Southeast Asia.Sarwar Khan's picture book teaches toddlers Urdu through their vivid imagination of their toys doing daily routines. A few of the Urdu words children will learn include sleeping, drinking, and eating.My Dinosaur and Unicorn is a wonderful read and will make the Urdu learning experience a joyful journey.
Sarwar Khan was born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan. Sarwar had her BSc. degree from Karachi before moving to Chicago. Sarwar continued her education by completing her associate's degree in Physical Therapy, bachelor's from National Louis University in applied behavioral sciences, and master's in Occupational Therapy from Mount Mary University Wisconsin.In her free time, Sarwar teaches Urdu to toddlers. Sarwar has firsthand experience working with elderly clients at her workplaces and seen many poignant faces and muteness of her clients who are not able to communicate in English. Therefore, for the elderly to express their emotional needs through the medium of their native languages is vital.Sarwar yearns to see younger generations speaking their native language and be able to communicate with their grandparents whose first language is not English.
