I conigli sono il terzo animale da compagnia più diffuso nel mondo occidentale e stanno diventando sempre più popolari anche nel resto del mondo. Si dice - e ho potuto constatare che è vero - che i conigli siano intelligenti quasi come un cane o un gatto medio. Vivono all'incirca lo stesso numero di anni, ma hanno meno esigenze ed è più facile nutrirli. Infatti, sono ideali per tutti coloro che non possono uscire molto o non vogliono avere carne in frigorifero o nemmeno in casa perché sono vegetariani incalliti! Se non sapete molto di conigli e pensate che un coniglio sia un coniglio siete perdonati, ma in realtà ne esistono 370 razze (secondo organizzazioni britanniche e statunitensi) provenienti da 70 paesi diversi, una scelta molto ampia quindi per colori e dimensioni. Non solo: chi ne possiede uno vi dirà che ogni coniglio ha una sua personalità specifica, proprio come un cane o un gatto. In generale possiamo comunque dire che i conigli sono docili, placidi e socievoli e non amano comportamenti o giochi bruschi. I conigli sono il terzo animale domestico più comune nel Regno Unito e il quarto negli USA, ma sono al terzo posto per diffusione in tutte le fasce di età dai 12 anni in su. Siete dunque in buona compagnia.
Owen Jones, Amazon Best-Selling Author from Barry, Wales, has lived in several countries and travelled in many more. He has written fifty novels and novelettes, including: Dead Centre; Andropov`s Cuckoo; Fate Twister; The Disallowed (a philosophical comedy); Tiger Lily of Bangkok; and A Night in Annwn (Annwn being the ancient Welsh word for Heaven). Many have been translated into foreign languages and narrated into audio books.
