The Other Side of Fear:A True Story of Murder, Forgiveness, and the Peace Only Faith Can Bring By: Brock Heasley There's only one word to describe your dad being shot thirteen times in an armed robbery: cool. Brock Heasley was twelve. The cost of terrible violence was more than just unknown to him—it was negligible. Besides, he never doubted his father would live. He could put footballs into orbit, just like Superman. That was the peak. The comedown was finding out his dad was human after all, sending Brock on a journey of self-discovery and forcing him to question everything he was raised to believe. Then, when tragedy strikes again years later and his father is murdered, Brock's faith and capacity to forgive are put to the ultimate test. The Other Side of Fear is an uplifting, personal memoir filled with humor and gut-wrenching honesty that serves as a convincing statement on the power of the Atonement to heal and to comfort. "I remember the first time I read a chapter from this book, I thought two things: One, this is brilliant and beautiful; two, Brock Heasley is an important storyteller I want to work with." —Dallas Jenkins, creator, The Chosen "Told with wit and humor, this is an emotional, raw story about how tragedy can shape you and faith can lead you through." —Kasie West, author, The Distance Between Us "While most of us can't relate to a Hollywood worthy personal history, Heasley approaches retelling his and his father's story with an honesty that surfaced some vivid memories from my own teenage life. During our family dinner yesterday, in response to their mother's inquiry about what our family's mission should be, our teenage daughter responded, 'to have empathy.' She doesn't know it yet, but, for her father, this memoir helped answer my daughter's wish in a way that neither she nor I could have imagined. I remember (and I didn't know I had forgotten) what youth was like." —Neal Harmon, CEO, VidAnge

Author Description

Brock Heasley is a graduate from California State University Fresno with a degree in Graphic Design. From 1996-1998, he served as a Spanish-speaking missionary for the Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-Day Saints (but he speaks terrible Spanish now; really, it's embarrassing). A former Art Director, Brock is the creator and writer of the comic The SuperFogeys, with SuperFogeys Vol. 1: Inaction Heroes (Th3rd World Studios) hitting stores June, 2020, and the writer of the YA novel Paper Bag Mask (Pen Name Publishing, 2018), which reached the top of Amazon's Young Adult Fiction New Release chart in the first week. In 2010, Brock co-created the online comic Monsterplex, which went on to win the DC Comics Zuda competition.

Brock is also a filmmaker. His debut short film, The Shift, earned him an Outstanding Filmmaker of the Year Award from the Hollywood Dreamz International Film Festival. He is now working in partnership with VidAngel Studios and Stellar Lense Productions to turn The Shift into a feature film. The Shift is currently streaming at VidAngel. Brock's second short film, The Two Hundred Fifth, recently made had its World Premiere at the prestigious Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal.

Brock lives with his wife, three daughters, three dogs, and one cat in California. Brock didn't want a third dog, but his girls made a pretty killer Power Point presentation and he didn't want to look like a jerk.
