After becoming one of the first Native American women to serve in Congress, she went on to become the first Native American United States Secretary of the Interior. Part of the Notable Indigenous Americans series, this book tells the story of how a young member of the Laguna Pueblo tribe grew up to make American history.

Author Description

Tammy Gagne has written hundreds of educational nonfiction books for adults and children. She is a freelance writer and avid aviculturist who specializes in the health and behavior of companion animals. In addition to being a regular contributor to several national pet care magazines. Tammy resides in Maine with her husband, son, dogs, and parrots.
