Product Details

This graphic novel for tweens deals with a 12 year old girl who is overweight and has to endure being made fun of by bullies in her school. Ms. Orenstein not only addresses the child weight issues, but we learn a lesson of living together - whatever race or heritage, kids are kids. Period. It is handled beautifully. Freddy takes her personality and talent and transcends her problems, with the help of her friends, and a great counselor who also knows what Freddy was going through. People don't know the power of words, especially to a young person. I can relate to this book. I was one of the fat kids. I was like Freddy. Fat Girls From Outer Space- a graphic novel is for everyone who has ever had something they were self-conscious of, or made fun of, and for those who didn't have those problems to see what words and actions can do. An imaginative and wonderful book...
